Dongwoo had promised Hoya once, back when Hoya was still Howon, that they would travel the world together someday when Dongwoo was filthy rich and could do that kind of thing. He'd been a little tipsy, sure, but Dongwoo is good at remembering promises. His mother used to tell him he had a memory like an elephant.
So years later—many, many years later, on the other side of half a decade of idol-dom and a couple years of military service and another couple years of finding his feet in the aftermath—Dongwoo calls Hoya (now Howon again) and says, "Want to go on a trip?"
"What are you talking about?" Hoya asks. His memory had never been like an elephant's, but it was okay, because he'd had Dongwoo.
"When we were kids, predebut," Dongwoo says. "I promised you we'd travel the world. You always wanted to go places, right? And I told you I'd make it happen no matter what."
Hoya's quiet for a moment, letting the memory filter back in. "Yeah," he says after a second. "Yeah, I remember that. God, that was ages ago." He laughs. It's a very familiar sound. "Why are you thinking about this now?"
"I don't know," Dongwoo says.
Well, that's not true. He knows that he's worried (has been worried) that they'll forget each other, now that they don't have the common ties of contracts and promotions to hold them in orbit with each other. They've already floated a little—Sunggyu and Woohyun into their duet team and then into solo careers, Sungjong into variety, Myungsoo and Sungyeol into acting. Dongwoo keeps in touch with all of them regularly, because he remembers, but it's not the same as it used to be.
He doesn't want to lose Hoya, too.
"Come on," Dongwoo says, instead of saying any of that. His voice sounds almost annoyingly pleading. "You know you want to."
Another prolonged pause. "...Yeah, okay," Hoya says. Dongwoo whoops and almost drops the phone, then quickly brings it back to his ear because Hoya's still talking. "When are we going? —More importantly, where are we going?"
Anywhere, Dongwoo thinks. "Let's go east," he decides. "We can chase the sunrise."
"You're so lame," Hoya says, but there's excitement in his voice, and Dongwoo thinks he can deal with Hoya thinking he's lame if he can keep making Hoya sound this happy.
